June 5, 2026 Scott Guelcher’s Summer Vibes Opening Exhibit and Artist Reception
Join The Pigment Gallery, located at 1860 Mellwood Avenue in Louisville on Friday, June 5, from 6:30 to 9 pm for the opening reception for our June featured artist, Scott Guelcher’s, “Summer Vibes”. This exhibit continues through July 6, 2026.
Scott Guelcher is a contemporary artist known for his distinctive blend of Pop Art imagery and abstract backgrounds. His work has been featured in galleries throughout Southwest Florida and beyond, earning local and international recognition for its vibrant, thought-provoking style.
Scott has received numerous awards and honors, including the 2008 Angels of the Arts Award for Best “New” Artist, the 2010 Soaring Eagles Award from the FGCU Alumni Association, and multiple Arts and Culture Grants from the City of Fort Myers. He was selected as one of ten Florida artists to attend the Mac: Model for Artists Career Development Workshop and participated in the Marketing and Promoting Your Work Workshop, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and administered by the Creative Capital Foundation.
In addition to his studio practice, Scott has dedicated himself to art education. He taught at Island Coast High School for 16 years, receiving recognition as Lee County Art Teacher of the Year (2015–2016) and the Excellence in Education Award (2021), and currently teaches at Oldham County High School in LaGrange, Kentucky. He has also contributed to the arts community as event chair for Art Royale 2008, the signature fundraiser for the Lee County Alliance for the Arts.
Scott’s work explores both local and global themes. His solo exhibition “Bikinis and Bombs” addressed the hydrogen bomb testing on Bikini Atoll, earning widespread attention. His series including People, Places, & Things, Abstract, and Mixed Media have been shown in over sixty group exhibitions and nine solo exhibitions. In 2015, he was commissioned to create two public artworks for Florida Gulf Coast University: statues of the Eagle mascot Azul, one in a baseball uniform and one in graduation attire. Scott continues to create work that inspires, educates, and engages communities, using art to explore memory, place, and cultural dialogue.
“Summer Vibes” is an immersion into the feeling of summer, not as a destination, but as a sensory memory that lives in the body. It captures the radiant energy and carefree spirit of the season not in one place, but everywhere. From sunlit city streets to open countryside, from shifting tides to golden horizons, the series reflects the shared language of summer: warmth on skin, light stretching long into evening, water in motion, and laughter carried on a soft breeze. Through layered color, tactile surfaces, and bold abstraction, I set out to channel summer as a universal sensation, luminous, fluid, and alive.
A defining element of this work is the infusion of sand directly into the surface of each painting. The sand introduces texture, grounding the vibrant color fields in something elemental. It catches and scatters light across the canvas, creating subtle shifts that evoke the sensation of walking along a shoreline or feeling warm grains beneath sunlit skin. More than material, it becomes metaphor shaped by tide and time, holding the quiet memory of place, merging sensation with substance.
My approach balances spontaneity and structure. Bursts of turquoise, coral, and sunlit yellow collide in playful harmony, evoking tropical waters, glowing skies, and the nostalgic haze of endless afternoons. Inspired in part by the easy, melodic warmth of Summer Breeze by Seals & Crofts, the series moves with a relaxed rhythm layered, fluid, and alive. Each artwork celebrates motion and feeling the way sunlight dances across water or how color deepens as the day unfolds toward dusk.
In “Summer Vibes”, abstraction becomes atmosphere. The paintings do not describe a place; they awaken a sensation – barefoot afternoons, salt in the air, sunlight dissolving into dusk. Each piece invites the viewer to pause, to feel, and to remember that summer is not only a season, but a state of openness, warmth, and presence that returns again and again, like the tide.
